The Bakery Franchise Self Raising Franchisees

The Bakery Franchise, Bakers Delight, has announced a new year's resolution to recruit 100 employees to its Fresh Franchisee program.

Franchisee recruitment has been tipped to be the biggest challenge faced by franchisors in 2011 according to industry experts, with 97 per cent of franchise systems claiming it’s currently the biggest issue they face.

The recent PWC Franchise Sector Indicator Survey also advised that for franchisors to increase the pool of suitable franchisees they would need to provide a diverse and rewarding career for candidates of all ages, particularly through the engagement of Generation Y. However, over 62 per cent of franchisors have not adopted any specific initiatives to attract this demographic.

Food Franchise Set To Explode

From The Sydney Morning Herald: "Going on recent reports of troubled times at the more sugary end of franchising (think Krispy Kreme and Baskin Robbins), the rise of Planet Chocolate's dessert bars seems very brave.

Still, food franchise owners Greg and Darren Factor are buoyant. And it's not just the sugar talking.

The brothers aim to expand on their two company-owned and three franchised stores by opening 35-40 more Planet Chocolates across Victoria and interstate over the next three to four years, keeping 15 per cent of them company-owned."

No Cooling Off For Ice Cream Franchise

From The Sydney Morning Herald: "Global ice-cream chain Baskin-Robbins says the demise of its Australian franchise holder has enabled it to take a hands-on approach to tapping into a "fabulous ice-cream market....

"The ice-cream franchise has ambitious growth plans for Australia, where it has so far failed to capture as much of the market as in the other 38 countries it operates.

"It's a fabulous ice-cream market," Mr Kumar said of Australia."There's warm weather right though the year, people are outdoorsy, they love the beaches. Ice-cream goes very well with that. And Australia is a very well developed franchise market."

There are 88 Baskin-Robbins stores across the country, and Mr Kumar said that number should one day match or better the 200 stores currently operating in Indonesia."

Ice cream franchise introduces warming desserts

Cold Rock, the ice cream franchise business opportunity, is experimenting with some new hot desserts. To test them with Cold Rock consumers, the new products have been rolled out in all 27 Victoria and South Australia outlets.

The food franchise developed three dishes, all of them including 2 scoops of ice cream: Chocolate Rocker cake, which is served with hot chocolate fudge, Sticky Date Pudding drizzled with hot caramel fudge and Nana's Rocking Apple Pie.

"This is a trial but potentially it could be rolled out for longer depending on the response from customers," said Maree Rogers, the franchise’s business support manager. "These will be high quality products which complement our existing menu and offer customers who aren't keen on an ice cream during the cooler months a warm alternative."

If the warm desserts, which are $8.50 each, prove to be popular they will be added to Cold Rock menus all over Australia. Rogers thinks the new additions will make ice cream parlours more attractive during the winter months: "All three desserts are quite indulgent which is what people want in winter. Cold weather can mean slow ice cream sales, but our goal is to maintain customer interest in our products through continued product innovation.”
